Check the local press for theatre and music venues. There are many outdoor opportunities to take in various forms of entertainment, including film festivals. Darwinians, like most Australians, are sports-keen and, even here in the tropics, Australian Rules Football – 'footy' - is popular. Marrara Oval is home to rugby, Aussie Rules and test cricket.

If you're in Darwin around May Day, you'll find beach parties, open-air rock concerts and plenty of culinary opportunities on offer. Unlike other places in the world, this is not so much a celebration of the international day of the labour movement as a welcoming to the Dry and the end of the box jellyfish/stinger season. This is the beginning of the traditional tourism season.
