Alice Springs
'The Alice' is the unofficial capital
of the Red Centre, Australia's heart. Alice Springs locals joke
that their town is closer to all Australia's beaches than anywhere
else! Just for the record, the closest beach is about 1,500km
away in Darwin. Whether you drive, fly or take the train, you
will feel you have indeed 'travelled' when you arrive in Alice Springs.
Life here is what you make it, and
the locals have invented all sorts of entertainment with the resources
at their disposal. For example, there's the Henley-on-Todd regatta,
a 'boatrace' in the dry river bed of the Todd, and all sorts of unnatural
events involving animals.
Jokes aside, Alice Springs is the cultural
centre of the desert and arid lands of Australia, as well as being the
starting point for visits to Uluru (Ayers Rock). Visit the following
galleries and museums in the Alice before heading off on your Uluru-Kata
